Our History
Central Texas Road, INC. was founded in 1988 by John E. Harris (Bubba) and Marilyn Harris. Before Bubba started his road construction business he grew up helping his dad do rock work all over Texas. Bubba started John E. Harris Jr. Construction Co. in 1969. In 1978 Bubba and Marilyn joined in partners to buy part of Du-Mor Enterprises out of San Antonio Texas where Bubba and Marilyn ran the San Marcos, TX branch. In 1988, after working 10 years overseeing the road and underground utility division of Du-Mor, Bubba and Marilyn started a new adventure and Central Texas Road, INC. began in Wimberley, Texas. If you needed a driveway out of base material or a paved driveway in or around Wimberley, Bubba was your guy. As a highly regarded road contractor, Bubba completed many projects for subdivision developers starting with clearing dirt roads to ending with miles of paved roads as a product. At the same time as completing work for subdivision developers, Central Texas Road, Inc. was awarded the Hays County road and maintenance contract and the City of San Marcos street improvement contract. The contracts were held 14 and 9 years, respectively, until the county and city each developed their own road and street divisions. Before retiring, Bubba, along with Clay's help, completed many ranch development projects that included stock tanks, clearing, ranch roads, concrete crossings and culvert installations all over Central and South Texas.
Central Texas Road, INC. has been and still is a minority contractor as well as a State of Texas recognized small business. Bubba and Marilyn retired in 2016. Today, Clay and his wife, Amanda reside in Fischer, TX and have taken over the family business as Vice President and President. Clay has been on a tractor since he was 3 years old and continues to prove his passion for roadwork as he builds the business that is his life.
